Contents: 7 species, of which 5 (71.4%) are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Regarded as a synonym of Morelia by Underwood & Stimson (1990), but as a valid genus by most subsequent works (e.g., Kluge 1993; Reynolds, Niemiller & Revell 2014). Leiopython was revalidated as a separate genus by Kluge (1993), but subsequently synonymized with Bothrochilus (Reynolds, Niemiller & Revell 2014). However, Schleip (2014) retained Leiopython as a valid genus, pending further studies. It was previously included in Liasis (e.g., Stimson 1969).
Distribution: Australia (Queensland [incl. Torres Strait Islands]), Indonesia (Biak, Salawati, Waigeo, Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea (Bismarck Archipelago [Duke of York, Mussau, New Britain, New Ireland, Umboi], d'Entrecasteaux Islands [Normanby], Eastern New Guinea, North Solomon Islands).
