Taxonomy of the family Scincidae
Bibliography of the genus Brasiliscincus
Biodiversity of the family Scincidae

Genus
Brasiliscincus

Brazilian Small-headed Skinks

Brasilianische Kleinkopfskinke

Brasilianske Småhovedskinker

1830 Euprepis Wagler (type species: Scincus agilis Raddi 1823 [fide Loveridge 1957; Bauer 2003])
2012 Brasiliscincus Hedges & Conn (type species: Scincus agilis Raddi 1823)
Contents: 3 species, all of which are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: This genus was described on the basis of species previously assigned to Mabuya. It is unclear to me why Euprepis, which antedates Brasiliscincus, has not been accepted as the valid name for this genus, since Scincus agilis, Raddi 1823, seems to have been accepted as the type species of both nominal genera (e.g., Bauer 2003).
Distribution: Brazil (Alagoas, Bahia, Ceara, Espirito Santo, Goias, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Piaui, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Sao Paulo [incl. Sao Sebastiao], Sergipe, Tocantins).

Brasiliscincus agilis

Atlantic Forest Small-headed Skink

Atlantischer Kleinkopfskink

Atlantisk Småhovedskink

1823 Scincus agilis Raddi
Mabuia agilis Günther 1885
Mabuya agilis Amaral 1937
Brasiliscincus agilis Hedges & Conn 2012

Remarks: Previously regarded as a synonym of Mabuya mabouya (e.g., Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970).
Distribution: Brazil (Bahia, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janeiro).

Brasiliscincus caissara

São Paulo Small-headed Skink

Sao-Paulo-Kleinkopfskink

Sao Paulo-småhovedskink

1974 Mabuya caissara Reboucas-Spieker
Brasiliscincus caissara Hedges & Conn 2012

Remarks: Probably a synonym of agilis (Vrcibradic, Mausfeld-Lafdhiya & Rocha 2006).
Distribution: Brazil (Sao Paulo [incl. Sao Sebastiao]).

Brasiliscincus heathi

Caatinga Small-headed Skink

Caatinga-Kleinkopfskink

Caatinga-småhovedskink

1951 Mabuya heathi Schmidt & Inger
Brasiliscincus heathi Hedges & Conn 2012

Remarks: Probably a synonym of agilis (Vrcibradic, Mausfeld-Lafdhiya & Rocha 2006).
Distribution: Brazil (Alagoas, Bahia, Ceara, Goias, Maranhao, Minas Gerais, Paraiba, Pernambuco, Piaui, Rio Grande do Norte, Sergipe, Tocantins).
