Most recent publications has treated them as a subspecies or synonyms of macquarii (e.g., Cann 1998; Cann & Georges in Ettling & Becker 2001; Swan, Shea & Sadlier 2004; Fritz & Havas 2006; Wilson 2006; Georges & Thompson 2010).
