Remarks: The subspecies krefftii and signata were previously regarded as a separate species (e.g., Wermuth & Mertens 1977 [krefftii]; Iverson 1992 [both taxa]). Most recent publications has treated them as a subspecies or synonyms of macquarii (e.g., Cann 1998; Cann & Georges in Ettling & Becker 2001; Swan, Shea & Sadlier 2004; Fritz & Havas 2006; Wilson 2006; Georges & Thompson 2010).
Distribution: Australia (New South Wales, Queensland [incl. Fraser Island], South Australia, Victoria).
