Contents: Endemicity: 20 genera of which 2 (10.0%) are endemic   0% 100% 97 species of which 25 (25.8%) are endemic   0% 100% Remarks: Previously regarded as part of the family Colubridae (e.g., Smith 1943; Loveridge 1957; Guibe 1958; Broadley 1983; Leviton, Anderson, Adler & Minton 1992; Chippaux 2001; Zug, Vitt & Caldwell 2001). Formerly included the genera now assigned to the families Atractaspididae, Aparallactidae, Cyclocoridae, Micrelapidae, Prosymnidae, Psammodynastidae, Psammophiidae, Pseudaspididae, and Pseudoxyrhophiidae. The validity some of these families is still disputed. Wallach (2026) regarded Prosymnidae and Pseudaspididae as subfamilies of Lamprophiidae. Distribution:  Africa, SW.
