Remarks: The genera contained in this family were previously included in Iguanidae (e.g., Peters & Donoso-Barros 1970). Subsequently, they were assigned to Tropiduridae (subfamily Liolaeminae) by Frost & Etheridge (1989). Separate family status was given by Frost, Etheridge, Janies & Titus (2001).
