Taxonomy of the family Scincidae
Bibliography of the genus Lygosoma
Biodiversity of the family Scincidae

Genus
Lygosoma

Southeast Asian Writhing Skinks, (Supple Skinks, Garden Skinks)

Südostasiatische Krümmenskinke

Sydøstasiatiske Vrideskinker

1827 Lygosoma Hardwicke & Gray (type species: Lacerta serpens Bloch 17766)
1834 Podophis Wiegmann (type species: Anguis quadrupes Linnaeus 1766; syn. Freitas, Datta-Roy, Karanth, Grismer & Siler 2019)
1952 Squamicilia Mittleman (type species: Eumeces isodactylus Günther 1864; syn. Freitas, Datta-Roy, Karanth, Grismer & Siler 2019)
Contents: 5 species, of which 2 (40.0%) are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Previously included Mochlus, Riopa, and the species now assigned to Subdoluseps. These three genera were separated from Lygosoma in a revision by Freitas, Datta-Roy, Karanth, Grismer & Siler (2019), who, based on analyzed tissue samples, assigned only 5 species with certainty to Lygosoma. Nevertheless, because tissue samples were unavailable for many of the remaining species previously assigned to Lygosoma, the authors retained another 23 species in the genus, which were previously assigned to either Mochlus or Riopa. These species are, however, provisionally assigned herein to these two genera, based on distribution and/or following previous assignments or original descriptions, pending further studies.
Distribution: SE. Asia.
Reported from: Cambodia, China, Indonesia (Java), Laos, Malaysia (West Malaysia [incl. Penang Island, Perhentian Islands]), Philippines (Cuyo, Palawan), Thailand, Vietnam.
