Remarks: Previously included in Mesoclemmys. Reassigned to Ranacephala by Thompson, Spinks & Shaffer (2021). Although the type locality is Sao Paulo, the species apparently does not occur in the state (Rhodin, Mittermeier & Silva 1982).
Distribution: Brazil (Espirito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro).
