Taxonomy of the family Leptotyphlopidae
Bibliography of the genus Tricheilostoma
Biodiversity of the family Leptotyphlopidae

Genus
Tricheilostoma

West African Forest Thread Snakes

Westafrikanische Wald-Fadenschlangen

Vestafrikanske Skov-trådslanger

1860 Tricheilostoma Jan (type species: Stenostoma bicolor Peters 1860)
2009 Guinea Hedges, Adalsteinsson & Branch in Adalsteinsson, Branch, Trape, Vitt & Hedges [not Guinea Kocak & Kemal 2008 (Hymenoptera)] (type species: Stenostoma bicolor Jan 1860; syn. Hedges 2011)
Contents: 6 species, of which 4 (66.7%) are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Previously regarded as a synonym of Leptotyphlops. Revalidated as a separate genus by Adalsteinsson, Branch, Trape, Vitt & Hedges (2009). For a short period, the genus name Tricheilostoma was used for the New World species now placed in Trilepida, until Hedges (2011) resolved the taxonomic confusion regarding the type species of the former genus.
Distribution: W. Africa.
Reported from: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Equatorial Guinea (Bioko), Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sudan, Togo.

Glauconia brevicauda Boulenger 1890
Leptotyphlops brevicauda Leeson 1950
1916 Glauconia bicolor gruveli Chabanaud
Glauconia gruveli Boulenger 1919

Remarks: Ullenbruch, Grell & Böhme (2010) listed brevicauda as a valid species. Regarded as a synonym of bicolor by most works (e.g., Hahn & Wallach 1998; Hedges 2011). Records from Chad refer to sundewalli (Trape, Kodindo, Djiddi, Mad-Toïngué & Kerah 2020).
Distribution: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Togo.

Remarks: Status uncertain (Broadley & Wallach 2007b). Known only from the type specimen, which is lost (Hahn 1980). The specimen was from the White Nile, which is provisionally assumed herein to refer to the White Nile State in Sudan, but it could be further south in South Sudan. Possibly related to bicolor and/or broadleyi (Wallach, Williams & Boundy 2014).
Distribution: Sudan.
