Remarks: Collins (1991) and suggested recognition of stejnegeri as a separate species. So did Upton & Murphy (1997) who restricted the name stejnegeri to the population in Durango, however, that taxon has its type locality in the USA, so it is not treated as a separate species here, pending further studies, and following several other authors (e.g., Crother, Boundy & al. 2003; Queiroz & Reeder in Crother (ed.) 2008). Also stellata has been treated as a separate species (e.g., Liner 1994), as well as taylori (e.g., Smith & Taylor 1950).
Distribution: Mexico (Baja California Norte [incl. Isla Cedros, Isla San Lorenzo Sur, Islas Coronados (Isla Coronado Sur)], Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Nuevo Leon, Sonora, Zacatecas), USA (Arizona, California [incl. Channel Islands], Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington).
