Taxonomy of the family Gymnophthalmidae
Bibliography of the genus Yanomamia
Biodiversity of the family Gymnophthalmidae

Genus
Yanomamia

Tepui Root Tejus

Tepui-Wurzeltejus

Tepui-rodtejuer

2018 Yanomamia Pellegrino, Brunes, Souza, Laguna, Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed & Rodrigues (type species: Arthrosaura guianensis MacCulloch & Lathrop 2001)
Contents: 2 species, both of which are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: The members of this genus were previously included in Arthrosaura or in Loxopholis (e.g., MacCulloch & Lathrop 2001; Kok 2008; Goicoechea, Frost, Riva, Pellegrino, Sites, Rodrigues & Padial 2016).
Distribution: Guyana.

Yanomamia guianensis

Pakaraima Mountains Root Teju

Pakaraima-Wurzelteju

Pakaraima-rodteju

2001 Arthrosaura guianensis MacCulloch & Lathrop [not Leposoma guianensis Ruibal 1952]
Loxopholis guianensis Goicoechea, Frost, Riva, Pellegrino, Sites, Rodrigues & Padial 2016
Yanomamia guianensis Pellegrino, Brunes, Souza, Laguna, Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed & Rodrigues 2018

Remarks: When Goicoechea, Frost, Riva, Pellegrino, Sites, Rodrigues & Padial (2016) transferred this species to Loxopholis, the authors did not take into account that it became a secondary homonym of Leposoma guianensis Ruibal 1952. Although they listed the two species as "L. guianense (Ruibal, 1952)" and "L. guianensis (MacCulloch, 2001 [sic])", respectively, the different suffixes did not solve the problem of homonymy, because guianense (Ruibal, 1952) would need to be corrected to guianensis to comply with grammar, since the grammatical gender of Loxopholis is feminine, not neuter like Leposoma (compare with Myriopholis which is also feminine; see Adalsteinsson, Branch, Trape, Vitt & Hedges 2009). Before a replacement name was suggested, the problem solved itself when Pellegrino, Brunes, Souza, Laguna, Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed & Rodrigues (2018) named a new genus, Yanomamia, for the two species guianensis and hoogmoedi. Should Leposoma guianensis Ruibal 1952 and Arthrosaura guianensis MacCulloch & Lathrop 2001 ever be placed in the same genus again, a replacement name is needed for the latter.
Distribution: Guyana.

Yanomamia hoogmoedi

Mount Maringma Root Teju

Maringma-Wurzelteju

Maringma-rodteju

2008 Arthrosaura hoogmoedi Kok
Loxopholis hoogmoedi Goicoechea, Frost, Riva, Pellegrino, Sites, Rodrigues & Padial 2016
Yanomamia hoogmoedi Pellegrino, Brunes, Souza, Laguna, Avila-Pires, Hoogmoed & Rodrigues 2018

Distribution: Guyana.
