Eugongylus albofasciolatus

Weissband-Riesen-Kurzbeinskink

Hvidbåndet Kæmpeskink

1872 Eumeces albofasciolatus Günther
Lygosoma albofasciolatum Boulenger 1887
Riopa albofasciolatum Barbour 1912
Eugongylus albofasciolatus Mittleman 1952
1890 Lygosoma striato-fasciatum Ogilby (Kinghorn 1928)
1918 Lygosoma albofasciolatus boettgeri Sternfeld [not Lygosoma boettgeri Sternfeld 1918] (Loveridge 1948)
1924 Riopa albofasciolatum poehli Mertens [substitute name for Lygosoma albofasciolatus boettgeri Sternfeld 1918]

Remarks: Records from mainland New Guinea and Australia are based on misidentified rufescens (Allison, Hamilton & Tallowin 2019).
Distribution: Marshall Islands (incl. Arno Atoll), Micronesia (incl. Pohnpei [incl. Ant Atoll]), Papua New Guinea (Bismarck Archipelago [New Britain, New Ireland], d'Entrecasteaux Islands [Fergusson], Louisiade Archipelago [Rossel], North Solomon Islands [Bougainville], Trobriand Islands), Solomon Islands (incl. Eugongylus mentovarius

Moluccan Recluse Skink, Odd-chinned Giant Skink

Molukkanischer Riesen-Kurzbeinskink

Molukkansk Kæmpeskink

1895 Lygosoma mentovarium Boettger
Riopa mentovaria Smith 1937
Riopa albofasciolata mentovaria Brongersma 1948
Eugongylus mentovarius Mittleman 1952

Other common names:
Eugongylus sp.: Palau Recluse Skink (see remarks)
Remarks: Regarded as a subspecies or a synonym of albofasciolatus by some authors (e.g., Brongersma 1948; Loveridge 1948; Böhme 1976 [by implication]), but as a separate species by others (e.g., Rooij 1915; Mertens 1934; Tanner 1950; Dryden & Taylor 1969; Shea 2018). Recorded from Palau by Dryden & Taylor (1969), but Crombie & Pregill (1999) did not consider the Palau population conspecific with mentovarius, although they refrained from trying to identify the species, due to the unresolved taxonomy of the genus.
Distribution: Indonesia (Halmahera, Morotai).

Eugongylus rufescens

Reddish Giant Skink, Rufescent Shark Skink, Bar-lipped Sheen Skink, Indo-Pacific Mole Skink

Rötlicher Riesen-Kurzbeinskink

1839 Eumeces oppellii Duméril & Bibron (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)
1867 Mabouia macrura Günther (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)
1874 Eumeces uniformis Meyer (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)
1877 Eumeces brunneus Macleay (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)
1877 Mabouia uniformis Macleay [not Eumeces uniformis Meyer 1874] (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)
1878 Euprepes cingulatus Peters & Doria (Cogger, Cameron & Cogger 1983)

Remarks: McCoy (2006, p. 70) states that in the Solomon Islands rufescens is found only on Rennell Island, however, in his island checklists (p. 132) he also lists the species for Shortland Islands.
Distribution: Australia (Queensland [incl. Torres Strait Islands]), Indonesia (Ambon, Aru Islands, Halmahera, Numfoor, Seram, Sulawesi, Supiori, Talaud Islands, Tanimbar Islands, Ternate, Western New Guinea), Papua New Guinea (Bismarck Archipelago [Admiralty Islands, New Britain, Umboi], d'Entrecasteaux Islands [Fergusson], Eastern New Guinea), Solomon Islands (Rennell).
