Taxonomy of the family Amphisbaenidae
Bibliography of the genus Bronia
Biodiversity of the family Amphisbaenidae

Genus
Bronia

Brazilian Worm Lizards

Brasilianischer Doppelschleichen

Brasilianske Ormeøgler

1865 Bronia Gray (type species: Bronia brasiliana Gray 1865)

Contents: 4 species, all of which are endemic.
Endemism: 0% 100%
Remarks: Mott & Vieites (2009) synonymized Bronia (as well as Anops, Aulura, Cercolophia, and Leposternon) with Amphisbaena. These genera are retained as valid herein, following many subsequent works (e.g., Ribeiro, Nogueira, Cintra, Silva & Zaher 2011; Ribeiro, Santos-Junior & Zaher 2015; Costa & Bernils 2014; Cacciali, Scott, Aquino-Ortiz, Fitzgerald & Smith 2016, Ribeiro, Silveira & Santos-Junior 2018).
Distribution: Brazil (Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Para, Tocantins).

Bronia bedai

Anastacio Worm Lizard

Anastacio-Doppelschleiche

Anastacio-ormeøgle

1991 Bronia bedai Vanzolini
Amphisbaena bedai Mott & Vieites 2009

Remarks: Recorded from Bahia by Pinna, Mendonca, Bocchiglieri & Fernandes (2010), but this record seems questionable, being far from the other known localities for the species in Mato Grosso do Sul. Moreover, Costa & Bérnils (2018) did not include Bahia in the distribution of the species.
Distribution: Brazil (Mato Grosso do Sul).

Bronia brasiliana

Lower Amazon Worm Lizard, Brazilian Worm Lizard

Amazonas-Doppelschleiche

Amazonas-ormeøgle

1865 Bronia brasiliana Gray
Amphisbaena brasiliana Goeldi 1902

Distribution: Brazil (Mato Grosso, Para).

Godiás-Doppelschleiche

Godiás-ormeøgle

1971 Bronia kraoh Vanzolini
Amphisbaena kraoh Mott & Vieites 2009

Distribution: Brazil (Tocantins).

Tocantins Worm Lizard

Tocantins-Doppelschleiche

Tocantins-ormeøgle

2003 Bronia saxosa Castro-Mello
Amphisbaena saxosa Mott & Vieites 2009
